Adamson installed in Busan Film Center

SOUTH KOREA: An Adamson sound reinforcement system has been installed into the Haneuleyon Theatre in Dureraum (also known as the Busan Film Center) in Centum City, Haeundae District. The newly constructed building was built on a 32,137 sq-m site, and is comprised of three buildings.

The Cinema Mountain, PIiff Hill and Double Cone make up the three buildings within the centre, and occupy a combined total floor space of 54,335 sq-m. The building’s key feature is its 163m × 61m 'Big Roof', which is flown over a 4,000 seat open-air theatre that is used for special public screenings in the summer.

The 841-capacity Haneulyeon Theatre or ‘Open Sky Theatre’ resides in the main nine-storey Cinema Mountain building, and acts as the main theatre in the Busan Cinema Center. This building is also home to a medium-sized cinema with 431 seats as well as a small 212-seat cinema and a cinema preview place.

The design and installation for the Haneuleyon Theatre was handled by Kang-dong Media in Busan with sound design support provided by Adamson’s South Korean distributor Sound Solution. The consultant for the installation was Sohn Gun Ho, director of Kang-dong Media. Ewan McDonald, Adamson’s applications engineer, flew in to take charge of the tuning process.

The main system comprises nine SpekTrix three-way enclosures hung below four SpekTrix double 18-inch subwoofers with a three SpekTrix W 15-degree box underhang placed at left and right of the main screen and stage. The location of the speakers was changed from the original design to approximately a metre wider on each side due to an issue caused by bass reflection from the ceiling’s interior acoustic treatment. The slight adjustment in positioning of the main hangs resolved this issue.

Meanwhile, the centre cluster is comprised of seven SpekTrix with two SpekTrix W underhangs. Four mobile SX subwoofers are placed on the ground, and 12 Point 8s supply fills on the balconies. Four M15 monitors are used on the stage, and all speakers are powered by Lab.gruppen FP10000Q, FP6000Qs and FP4000 amplifiers. Processing is handled by XTA DP products and a DiGiCo SD7 now serves as the FOH mixing console. The theatre’s full time chief FOH sound engineer is Byung Tae Kim.

‘The team at Sound Solution did a very professional job with this installation in what is a world class facility,’ said Mr MacDonald. ‘After some time was spent commissioning the system we ended up with a very nice sounding system with no more than +/-0.5dB variation throughout the floor and the mid balcony, which was a testament to the great work completed by the design team at Sound Solution.’
