AIR orders Ampegon shortwave transmission systems

INDIA: India’s national broadcaster, All India Radio (AIR), recently ordered two 100kW shortwave transmitters from Ampegon, replacing its existing analogue models with four analogue/digital transmitters. The transmitters will operate with the new Ampegon control system to optimise DRM performance.
AIR has been utilising a range of different Ampegon AM/DRM radio transmitters for years, having first invested in the brand in 1983.
Factory tests with AIR engineers are planned to take place in January and shipment is due in February 2014. Following this, AIR will install the transmitters at a site near New Delhi. Commissioning with an Ampegon engineer will start in August 2014, and the new transmitters are expected to be on air by October 2014.
The new investment will be partially used for DRM digital broadcasting and partially for analogue transmission. Furthermore, AIR has plans to upgrade 36 of the existing AM medium wave and four of the existing AM shortwave transmitters for DRM digital broadcasting.
