Alcons wins Sydney theatre contract

AUSTRALIA: An Alcons Audio reinforcement system has been selected by Sydney’s Riverside Theatre following a series of loudspeaker demonstrations overseen by a panel of audio engineers and consultants.
Located on the banks of the Parramatta River, the Riverside Theatre is a three-storey venue with a proscenium arch and seating capacity for 760. Described as an adaptable space, it is used principally for drama, comedy and musical theatre, although it can host most types of production from live rock music, jazz, world music and opera to dance productions.
In order to select a new front of house system, a full day of speaker demonstrations was held in front of an advisory panel appointed by the theatre management. The winning Alcons Audio system was installed by Sydney-based Loud And Clear. It comprises eight LR14 pro-ribbon line-array modules and three LR14B double 12-inch line-array subs flown in one central array with two BF302 Mk2 double 15-inch stacked subwoofers. Powering the boxes are ALC2 and ALC4 amplified loudspeaker controllers with DDP digital drive processors.
‘The brief was to replace the centre cluster of the existing system with a full range, high quality system, with coverage to 98 per cent of the house,’ commented Loud And Clear’s David Betterridge. ‘With the wide horizontal dispersion of the Alcons LR14/120 loudspeakers, we nailed the coverage easily and their fidelity caught the listening panel’s attention immediately. We felt Alcons had won the day after the first track had been played through each system. We knew it was only going to get better when the panel started auditioning live sources and other content.
‘The venue is very impressed with the system, as are many of the touring engineers who have done shows there since the upgrade. Needless to say we’re proud to have been awarded the trust of the client.’
