Amphion rides the Mix Wave to Japan

JAPAN: Amphion Loudspeakers has agreed a distribution partnership with Mix Wave Inc in Japan, with the manufacturer’s full studio monitor line already available via the pro audio reseller. Mix Wave was reportedly chosen to become the first dealer in Japan to offer the Finnish manufacturer’s catalogue of studio monitors and amplifiers having demonstrated the right combination of capability and enthusiasm that Amphion’s founder and managing director, Anssi Hyvönen, was looking for.

‘I'm convinced that with Mix Wave we found the right partner,’ said Mr Hyvönen. ‘I believe that choosing a good partner in our business is not only based on matching commercial interests, but also very much on how both parties view and sense sound.’

For both companies, now looks to be a good time for Amphion Loudspeakers to arrive in the Japanese market. Mix Wave Inc in particular is drawing on past experience. ‘When I first met Genelec, back in 1980s, they were a modest company with about 10 people working there,’ recalled president of Mix Wave Inc, Hirokazu Saika. ‘Now, when I look at Amphion, who are very much alike in terms of size and dedication, I see a huge potential. Amphion has a very distinctive style both in terms of design and sound quality and I believe they will fit very well with Japanese simple and clean aesthetics.’

‘As always, timing is everything,’ Mr Hyvönen noted. ‘Our entry into Japan could not take place at a better time. One era is now ending, as spare parts for Yamaha's NS-10 are not even available in Japan anymore.’
