Apart Audio weatherproofs Penguin Parade

AUSTRALIA: As part of its recent refurbishment, Phillip Island Nature Park’s (PINP) Penguin Parade facility has been equipped with a new Apart Audio sound system. The result, according to the client, is an ‘enormous improvement in audio intelligibility for announcements’. The project was undertaken by Tilmex Pty Ltd.
PINP is a conservation park located approximately 1.5 hours drive south of Melbourne on Phillip Island, Victoria. Opened in 1996, the park is owned by the Victorian State Government but remains self-funded through commercial investments. The area has been popular with conservationists for much longer, however, as groups dating as far back as the 1930s have watched the Penguins waddle up the beach at the end of every day.
The Penguin Parade facility was opened more recently and is often subjected to a harsh coastal environment. Installers Tilmex therefore chose to install IP-rated equipment to protect against the elements.
The installation called upon a comprehensive selection of Apart’s equipment including its Mask, Column and 360-degree sphere speakers positioned throughout the building’s theatre, small and large retail areas, rear exit to the beach, information area, outdoor walkway, café and bathrooms.
The speakers were powered by the manufacturer’s Revamp4120T and Revamp2250 amplifiers, with additional processing and control provided via an Audiocontrol12.8 DSP matrix. A DIMIC12 digital paging station was also integrated in to the system.
Following the installation, the client has reportedly expressed their pleasure at the ‘wonderful clarity of the new system’.
