INDIA: Audio Jewellers has recently completed a sound reinforcement installation at a synthetic ice skating rink named Ice Age and a café in the Moments Mall in New Delhi. According to Audio Jewellers, this is the first synthetic ice rink in Northern India.
The entire installation took one month to complete, and comprised various products from loudspeaker manufacturer Tannoy, including two VX 12 coaxial speaker systems, a VS18DR reflex-loaded sub-bass system, two Di8 DC installation cabinets, a VS15BP subwoofer system, as well as two Di5a active loudspeakers. A Tannoy TDX1 digital system controller was chosen to optimise the audio system.
‘We are promoting Tannoy in India, and the Tannoy speaker size and the loudness helped us decide that the products would be suitable,’ said Audio Jewellers’ Shitij Harnwal and Narinder Pal Singh.
‘The ice rink required a minimum SPL level of 126dB which we were able to achieve, and we also ensured there was an equal level of sound throughout the ice rink, café and the locker area,’ they continued.
Audio Jewellers stated that it was a challenge to fit the loudspeakers and subwoofer when trying to keep a balance of acoustics and aesthetics. ‘Also, the client wanted a place where he could host private parties during the night, hence the speaker size,’ they clarified.
The team insist that the Tannoy system has ‘given a new level of importance to the Ice Age the Moments Mall,’ and Mr Pal Singh and Mr Harnwal concluded by saying that ‘the client and the customers enjoy the output of the system, and this has given us good publicity.’
A Pioneer DDJ-S1 console was also utilised, as was a Sharp PG-D3550W projector and a Sony low light camera. Meanwhile, a 575 Moving Head Spot was selected for the install, as were two LED Pars, a Laser RGB-1 25W, two snow machines and a smoke machine.
