ASIA: The winners of a special competition organised by Audio-Technica have been announced with Calvin Ong of Singapore and Denjie Oliver from the Philippines winning an A-T AE6100/LE microphone and an AE4100/LE mic respectively.
The contest – organised in conjunction with Pro Audio Asia – saw Audio-Technica users from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, The Philippines and Indonesia invited to tell the manufacturer why they use its microphones.
AE6100/LE winner Calvin Ong, a freelance recording engineer, was quick to praise the brand, declaring: ‘For the past three years, my AT2020 has never failed me. I have been using the mic for vocal and acoustic guitar recording. I also used the AT2035 and AT2020 to produce a demo CD. I’m amazed by the sound quality that was produced by the mic. The sound is very clear and clean.’
Similarly, vocalist Denjie Oliver of The Philippines reasoned: ‘My biggest pet peeve when playing live is to face feedback or sounding too bright. I’ve tried a few different mics, but my favourite is still the trustworthy AE3300 because I love the clean and powerful sound it gives me onstage without changing the voice. I would like to stress on the word “clean”, as that’s the best way to describe its sound. Also, it may be kind of ridiculous, but I like the way the mic physically looks.’
‘We felt that these two participants deserve the winning prizes as they shared their personal and heartfelt experiences when using a microphone in the live sound industry, and they also touched on the sound quality of our microphones,’ explained Teng Shaokai (SK), Audio-Technica’s assistant sales manager, Pro Audio and Regional Division. ‘We were not looking for text-book based answers – the thing that had to stand out in the winning comments were the personal experiences of each individual.’
He added that the contest was staged in honour of A-T’s 50th anniversary: ‘We wanted to thank the support of all our customers who have been with us all these years’.
