Audio-Technica HQ throws support behind Australian sports sponsorship

ASIA: Following news in April of this year that Australian Audio-Technica distributor Technical Audio Group (TAG) had organised AT’s first major sports sponsorship by becoming the official headphone partner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league football team, the company’s Japanese head office has now suggested that the deal may be ‘a foretaste of things to come’.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs team has a long history dating back to 1908 and it is a foundation member of Australia’s National Rugby League competition. In April, Audio-Technica distributed headphones and in-ears to each of the first grade players and coaching staff.

At the time, Anthony Russo described himself as ‘extremely proud’ of the sponsorship, adding: ‘Seeing the enthusiasm for Audio-Technica spoke volumes for us and we couldn’t be more thrilled’. Since then, staff at the $300million turnover corporation’s Tokyo head office have reportedly become ‘very vocal and engaged’ in their support for the team.

‘Throughout our 51 year history Audio-Technica has always moved with the times and with the interests of our customers,’ said director Ryuji Haraguchi. ‘Music and sport used to be quite separate disciplines but portable music and headphones have helped bring them closer and closer so we are delighted that TAG has entered into this association with the Rabbitohs in Australia and that our products are being used by such elite high-profile sportsmen. Go the Bunnies!’
