Audio-Technica mics the Sentosa Boardwalk opening ceremony

SINGAPORE: Overcoming several technical challenges, Audio-Technica’s Artist Elite 5000 Series wireless microphone systems were chosen to cover the opening ceremony of Singapore’s Sentosa Boardwalk.
Officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, the S$70 million dollar boardwalk required an appropriate wireless microphone system to cover the 620m walkway.
Audio-Technica anticipated a tough set-up, commenting in particular on the large distance the microphones would have to cover, which was five times more than the manufacturer’s 100m base used in factory testing. The company reports that it was also concerned about the flexibility of the wireless systems and length of cables, which could result in a noticeable drop in SPL.
Mr Kane, DBL’s sound engineer said: ‘A-T’s microphones performed well during the occasion. In fact, I was surprised about the high quality sound produced from the AEW-T4100 handheld microphone.’
Mr Willy, director of Active Visual, commented on the wireless systems’ performance: ‘Initially, we were afraid of the crowded RF environment. However, the Artist Elite 5000 Series wireless system performed flawlessly during the whole event.’
Audio-Technica reports that that wireless microphone systems ‘performed admirably’ in poor weather conditions, which affected the Emcees’ route.
