Audiocenter transforms Café Zoe into multipurpose venue

INDIA: Located in South Mumbai, Café Zoe has recently been outfitted with a new sound system from Chinese manufacturer Audiocenter. Although primarily functioning as a café, starting Thursday evenings and continuing throughout the weekend, the venue has begun to host live music performances from bands and DJs.

The 370 sq-m Café Zoe is spread across two levels and comprises a ground floor dining area, that also serves as a performance stage, with a balcony overlooking it. With the initial music programme comprising a blend of slow jazz and classical music during the day, and upbeat funk and disco lounge in the night, the Audiocenter system was designed to deliver complete coverage for the venue at any volume.

The main system is comprised of two clusters of three Audiocenter KLA28 cabinets suspended above the dining area from the ceiling supports and positioned to provide 30-degrees of coverage. These are augmented with a pair of active TS12P 12-inch portable cabinets that simultaneously serve as monitors for the DJs while providing additional fill for the void behind the main clusters. Further reinforcement is delivered on the mezzanine by four PF26+ full-range cabinets and a pair of PF+112 subwoofers. The system now boasts a total maximum SPL of 120dB on the main level and 110dB on the mezzanine.

‘Though several brands and product features were considered, the most important decision was choosing a solution which had a strong support structure we could rely on,’ explained project consultant Shaan Bhavnani. ‘We chose the KLA28 line array from Audiocenter for front of house as it is perhaps the most diverse speaker available that we could adapt into our indoor venue. It has the power, dispersion and quality we required given our new music programme.’
