Biamp acquires microphone specialist Dev-Audio

WORLD: Biamp Systems has announced the acquisition of Australian microphone technologies specialist Dev-Audio Pty Ltd, the company behind the Microcone and Microcone Recorder conferencing products. The purchase has been described by Biamp president and CEO, Steve Metzger, as ‘a natural fit’.
Founded in 2008 and based on Australia's Gold Coast, Dev-Audio is led by Iain McCowan, who will now join Biamp as a DSP engineer. The company is best known for Microcone, which won the Best of Show Award at the 2012 Macworld exhibition. The technology, along with its associated software application, Microcone Recorder, uses a beam-formed microphone array to track and enhance voice quality in group conversations whilst reducing background noise, and facilitating direct recording to a computer. Other products in the range include Microcone Voices, an app for Skype that identifies conference participants, and Microcone Remote for iPhone.
‘We are all excited to welcome Iain to the Biamp team,’ commented Biamp’s executive vice president of operations, Matt Czyzewski. ‘His experience in new product development, speech recognition and enhancement, and microphone arrays will enable us to develop more innovative products for the conferencing market.’
Mr Metzger added: ‘Innovating communications is part of Biamp’s stated vision, and the products and technologies of Dev-Audio align perfectly with it’.
