Bosch returns to NIDA

AUSTRALIA: Bosch Communications first headed to Sydney’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) back in 2012 to install an intelligent paging system into its four main zones. With the venue now requiring a sound reinforcement system for the newly refurbished Atrium Theatre, Bosch was again awarded the contract. As in 2012, solutions from its Dynacord brand were chosen.

‘Bosch came in bang on the money, providing us with quality German-built Dynacord products that achieve an exceptional tonal quality without any EQ – which is rare for powered boxes,’ enthused NIDA’s A/V supervisor Felix Kulakowski, who was tasked with sourcing the supplier.

A total of eight Dynacord D8A loudspeakers and two PowerSub 212 dual-12-inch subwoofers were supplied to cater for a variety of purposes, including theatrical performances and BGM for corporate events. The products are also used to provide NIDA students with experience in flying speakers as well as mixing on 5.1 and 7.1 surround systems. Because the students will be regularly repositioning the speakers, they needed to be lightweight above all else. The D8As satisfied this requirement.

‘The whole idea of the space is to have the speakers flown around easily to create different soundscapes, which is possible thanks to their lightweight design,’ continued Mr Kulakowski. ‘I can literally pick one of the boxes up with one finger!’

The new system was put to use recently during a production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, to great praise from the management and audience alike.
