Bosch system facilitates clear discussions at Nuclear Security Summit

SOUTH KOREA: A number of Integrus digital infrared simultaneous interpretation systems from Bosch were selected to deliver translated speeches given at the recent 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit. KT, one of the summit’s main professional convention organisers selected Bosch Congress Rental Network (CRN), Panorama Media as a solution for the language distribution system.

Held at the Coex centre – which comprises a 1,300-seat main press centre, an international broadcasting area with over 100 booths, and a lounge section – the event was attended by over 53 heads of states and international organisations, as well as approximately 4,000 journalists.

Due to the scale of the venue, a reliable wireless language distribution system was required to deliver the speeches – which were simultaneously being translated to 18 different languages. The brief was to install a system in the Media Centre as well as deliver audio signals from the main conference hall to the centre. These included 16 languages that needed to be delivered over a long distance covered by optical media converters, to be linked to 16-channel Integrus transmitters.

Besides the 16 languages, two other languages were to be translated within the Media Centre. Responding to this challenge, CRN Panorama Media installed two separate systems. A total of 14 infrared radiators were selected following extensive ‘footprint’ simulations and delay settings trials to avoid black spots caused by signal cancelling from multiple radiators. This also minimised shadow areas from several large columns inside the venue which blocked the signals. In addition, participating journalists were provided with 1,400 infrared receivers.

‘Throughout the conference, the Bosch Integrus LDS delivered flawless speeches with excellent sound clarity and without interference to all journalists and reporters,’ said a Bosch spokesperson. ‘Delegates had total freedom of movement, and it also gave them information integrity, because the distributed signals could not pass beyond the conference hall. This contributed to the success of the event and allowed the news to be spread globally smoothly.’

The summit was themed ‘Beyond Security Towards Peace’, and covered international cooperative measures to protect nuclear materials and facilities from terrorist groups.
