Budee opens Lakeside Studio in Beijing

CHINA: Distribution company Budee has opened a recording studio at its Beijing headquarters. Lakeside Studio has been equipped with many leading brands including Tube-Tech, Summit Audio, Antelope, Apogee, Manley, TC Electronic, Focusrite, Waves and API. At the heart of the main mixing and mastering control room is an SSL XLogic SuperAnalogue X-Desk with Barefoot Micro Main nearfield monitors, while an adjacent recording studio has been installed with a Digidesign C|24 control surface with Quested monitoring.

Lakeside Studio has entered into a two-year contract with China’s largest independent record label, Modern Sky, one of the leading providers of contemporary Chinese musical content in the world. Under the terms of the contract, Lakeside will produce musical content for Modern Sky’s live events and entertainment channels. Modern Sky Entertainment produces the annual Modern Sky Festival, China's largest outdoor music and art festival, and the three-day Strawberry Festival.

The studio is staffed by two full-time engineers, Chen Dong and Li You. Both engineers are extremely pleased to be working in such a well-equipped studio, with Mr You citing the TSL-4 Vac Rac stereo tube limiter as one of his favourite pieces of gear. ‘It really gives the music a shape you can feel,’ he commented. ‘It’s especially good for the mastering jobs we do here.’

He also had praise for the Barefoot monitors in the studio’s main control room. ‘Most speakers of this size cannot reproduce the sort of sound these are capable of, which fills up the entire room and sound very big and solid,’ he said.
