INDIA: Bestt Sound System has supplied a sound reinforcement system for use at the most recent Chaos Festival in Ahmadabad, Gujarat. The festival was organised by students of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) of which Bestt Sound System has been associated with since its inception. The rental company has supplied the IIM with equipment in previous years, but this time round the focus was on sound. The result, according to the company was 'sonic quality that was simply brilliant'.
The four-day event is billed as India’s largest business school cultural festival. Having originally started in 1996, the concert has evolved dramatically over this period and this year featured an impressive artist line-up including: Coshish – a progressive rock band, DJ Aqueel, preliminary rounds for the Femina Miss India Contest, Coke Studio featuring Ram Sampath and Sona Mahapatra, Sonu Kakkar and Salim-Sulieman.
Forming the main audio system were flown hangs comprising DAS Aero 50 line array modules coupled to Lab.gruppen PLM 10000 and PLM 20000 amplifiers. For audio monitoring the team supplied DAS Rode series stage monitors, and to fill in holes in coverage, JBL VRX 915s were positioned with help from EASE and Smaart 7.4.3 software. The whole system was them tuned by Bestt Sound owner, Amiel Bestt.
Mixing duties at FOH were handled by a DiGiCo D5 112 EX surface connected to the stage rack via fibre optic, and an SD8 operating as a monitoring console connected via Madi. This configuration allowed for digital sharing of the stage racks between the consoles and facilitated gain tracking for the monitor console.
Aftab Khan, FOH engineer of Salim-Sulaiman commented on the setup during the event: 'I am amazed by the sound of the system and the headroom the DiGiCo D5 provides.’
Fellow sound engineer Madhur of Coke studio was equally of complimentary: ‘Thank you for the excellent sound at the IIM gig. Thanks for all the support and greetings to your entire team - Vaibhav, Amit and Roshan.’
Echoing that sentiment was Mark Rodrigues: ‘Thanks to the Bestt brothers for their kind support. Also to the boys who did a great job.’
In the run up to the event, the Bestt Sound team, comprised of Mr Vaibhav, Mr Malim, and Mr Bestt, had worked round the clock to ensure the festival was described as truly memorable. With the event over and everything packed away, it seems clear they did their job.
