CHINA: Two of China’s 20 x 12m ‘giant screen’ cinemas have recently been equipped with products from JBL and Crown. The China International Cineplex in Heifei, Anhui and the Shanghai Film Art Center are the most recent companies to invest in the giant screen systems, each of which are equipped with 13.1 Harman sound systems.
The China International Cineplex was equipped with multiple JBL speakers, including three 5742 cinema loudspeakers with 18 AC2212 two-way cabinets for surround sound. Meanwhile, 12 8350 cinema cabinets line the ceiling, and all speakers are driven by a number of Crown amplifiers, including three CNi-6000 main bass amps, three CNi-2000 main high amps and two CNi-4000s secondary bass amplifiers. The surround sound, back corner and ceiling effects are powered by six additional CNi-2000s.
Elsewhere, the Shanghai Film Art Center boasts a JBL system powered by Crown, including five 5672s for main speakers, 42 AC2212 cabinets for left and right surround fills and ceiling effects, 12 4645Cs, and two 4518 subwoofers for secondary bass sound. Two 4722N two-way cabinets were installed for additional surround effects, and a total of 28 Crown DSi2000s, five DSi4000s and two DSi6000 amplifiers power the JBL system.
Multiple cinema groups in the country have expressed interest in installing the giant screen system theatre solutions, with approximately 30 additional screens forecasted for 2012.
