CHINA: Urumqi TV (UTV), a broadcaster in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, has recently equipped its new 10-channel HD OB van with an extensive deployment of Snell equipment.
Beijing-based system integrator Sanitec supplied UTV with a Kahuna multi-format production switcher, a Pyxis router, a Kudos Plus TBS800 SD/HD/3Gbps format converter and an IQ Modular infrastructure. The new equipment will support high-quality live broadcasting of news, sports events and various entertainment shows.
‘Working with Sanitec, we evaluated leading international broadcast equipment suppliers and products, and determined that Snell solutions best met our requirements for power, reliability, and performance,’ agreed UTV’s Wu Erpu, director of technical centre and Li Heng, duty director of technical centre. ‘In addition to ensuring high-quality image and audio transmission, they enable easy operation and control. Together, the Snell systems make a cost-effective solution that meets our present needs, and if our needs should change, we know we will be able to extend or upgrade this installation with ease.’
‘Deployment of this state-of-the-art technology demonstrates a practical forward-looking approach to live production and broadcasting, as well as a commitment to the quality of the end product,’ said David Tasker, senior vice president of technical services at Snell. ‘Urumqi TV's installation of Snell equipment in its OB van puts the broadcaster in the position – now and in the future – to deliver even more compelling and timely programming via its six broadcast channels.’
