Christie creates biggest and brightest National Day celebrations

SINGAPORE: Christie headed back to Singapore’s Marina Bay recently to deploy more than 40 projectors in celebration of the country’s 49th birthday. The manufacturer has provided equipment repeatedly for past celebrations but this year deployed the largest number of projectors to date, and the largest digital floor projection canvas ever used at the event.
This year’s National Day show celebrated the can-do spirit and caring attitude of Singaporeans through vibrant multimedia and lively displays. With a floor projection area approximately the size of a football field, the effects of the digital projections integrated into the performance provided a visual feast for everyone watching the grand event live or on television.
The manufacturer’s rental staging partner Hexogon Solution Pte Ltd deployed six Roadster HD18K and 34 Roadster HD20K-J 3-chip DLP projectors. They displayed a variety of multimedia content onto the 80m by 40m floor canvas for a performance section of the show that featured 5,000 performers. Last year’s event utilised 30 projectors, making this occasion’s visual display a full 25 per cent larger.
‘We’re very happy that our partner Hexogon Solution was chosen as the projection provider of Singapore’s NDP for the third consecutive year by offering our cutting edge visual solutions to enhance the festivities of the country’s 49th birthday celebrations,’ said Lin Yu, VP of Christie Asia Pacific. ‘We are also excited that Hexogon Solution has deployed a record 40 Christie Roadster Series projectors on this occasion to deliver a fantastic performance for everyone attending this large-scale event.’
‘The requirements of the organising committee made it necessary for us to set up 40 Christie Roadster projectors for this year’s NDP,’ explained Adrian Goh, managing director of Hexogon Solution. ‘I’m pleased to note that we delivered a very comprehensive solution from system design and installation, through our ability to supply fast and qualitative content and integration, to solve any technical issues under one roof. The results are the brightest projection and most impressive results to date, making this parade a very enjoyable and memorable one for all Singaporeans.’
Supporting the digital projections were 22 towers that were arranged to depict the skyline of Singapore. The projectors were positioned on the towers 28m above the ground and overlooking the floating platform. To protect against the elements, the installers derived two different types of outdoor enclosures for both upper and lower tiers where the projectors were placed. These positions created some challenges for the team, but with experienced gained from previous years involvement they were able to overcome issues with image adjustment and alignment to deliver a visual show that resulted in ‘thunderous cheers and applause from the audience’.
‘The exciting multimedia displays and state-of-the-art projection technologies have created a fantastic show. But it is our people’s dedication that makes the show magical,’ concluded Colonel David Neo, chairman of the NDP show committee. ‘From our 3,000 performers who return weekly to rehearse under all weather conditions, 1,000 participants who work behind the scenes to support our performers, to the 50-strong creative team who conceptualised the show, every one of them stepped forward with their can-do spirit to deliver this year’s spectacle. We hope Singaporeans watching the parade on-site and at home will feel that same spirit, and have a magical National Day.’
