Clair Brothers boosts Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block concerts

INDONESIA: A Clair Brothers sound reinforcement system supplied by PT Total Productions provided the audio for recent concerts by the Backstreet Boys and New Kids On The Block at the new indoor Mata Elang International stadium (MEIS) in Jakarta.

The venue’s in-house system was selected by the client – MEIS – and comprises 28 i218M large format line arrays, 16 iS218 subwoofers, 16 i212M arrays for out-fills and delays, six FF-2-H compact speakers for front-fills and 16 12AM stage monitors. This system was installed a few months ago, and it was first put to use for a Sum 41 concert in April, and was then utilised for US metal act Dream Theatre, followed by South Korean boy band Super Junior later on in the month.

‘The client selected Clair Brothers after listening to the other manufactures,’ said Wayne Grosser, managing director of Clair Bothers Australia. ‘The other main factor was that they wanted a brand that has been rider-friendly for many years.’

Commenting on what makes the equipment suited for the venue’s requirements, Mr Grosser continued: ‘The i218-M is Clair Brothers’ mobile large format innovation in line array technology. It is built for large environments where maximum output (145dB max) and coverage are required. Plus it incorporates an all-new approach in modular midrange and high frequency technology, providing excellent controlled directivity. The centrally located mid/high modules provide 90 degree horizontal by 10 degree vertical coverage and are symmetrically flanked by the i218-M low frequency sections. Each 18-inch low frequency driver is front-loaded in independent tuned vented chambers. The i218M system worked like a dream for the recent concerts, and mobility and ease of rigging was another important factor for FOH configuration changes,’ he added.

The delivery of the equipment was completed in four weeks, with system commissioning taking another week. ‘We managed to cut our normal lead in time from 10 weeks to four to make the first concert – Sum 41,’ said Mr Grosser. ‘It is a fantastic indoor stadium that is well equipped for international tours using the in-house Clair Brothers audio, large LED screens and intelligible lighting fixtures,’ he enthused. ‘Mata Elang president Hendra Lie along with Ellyas Benyamin and his team were very impressed with the Clair Brothers system and choice for the MEIS stadium.

‘There are quiet a lot of artists touring through Asia that are Clair Global clients, and artists that spec other audio brands usually accept a Clair Brothers system locally and worldwide,’ he concluded.
