Coda Audio Services stocks up on Shure UHF-R systems

AUSTRALIA: Over the course of a year, Coda Audio Services has taken delivery of 50 channels of Shure UHF-R wireless microphone systems to use for a range of high profile events, such as The Sydney Festival.

Michael Wilkie, director of Coda Audio Services, decided to invest extensively in the Shure UHF-R system as he considers it to be ‘the most accepted and trusted wireless microphone system in the industry. The upcoming change in the frequency window of what we’re allowed to use in Australia was an important factor in the purchases,’ he explained. ‘The 780-820MHz range will become progressively unusable or illegal to use in Australia at a certain point in the future so we needed to change.

‘They’re a lot more flexible and easier to set up than their predecessor,’ he continued. ‘The IR to program the belt packs makes set up a lot quicker and less fiddly for operators. The RF performance is good; you don’t have to have a complicated RF set up because when patching you can cascade from one receiver to another. That way you don’t always have to be thinking about sending out antenna distribution units and that type of thing.’

Continuing, Mr Wilkie said: ‘For more complicated jobs they’ve got a nice interface to the computer system which allows you to do more things such as keep track of what’s going on with each channel, and do a frequency scan to see what’s messing up with your RF in that area.’

Twenty-two channels of Coda Audio Services’ Shure UHF-R come with Beta58a handhelds and Shure UR1 bodypacks. In addition, the company has six Shure KSM9 heads for handheld transmitters. However as the Australian company provides equipment for musical theatre and dance, it also opted for 16 compact UR1M micropacks. ‘They are so small you can get them in a wig if you need to,’ he commented. ‘They’re fantastic; tiny, durable and lightweight.’

The Shure systems were distributed by Jands.
