Community covers Hachiko Square

JAPAN: A large-scale LED advertising screen has called for the addition of weatherproof Community Professional R-Series loudspeakers into Tokyo’s famous Hachiko Square.
With millions of visitors every year, this famous plaza provides an ideal advertising opportunity. As such, Katoya Recording Service was commissioned to provide the sound for a 24.3m x 17.3m LED screen, which is mounted on a roof overlooking the intersection.
‘To provide high quality and intelligibility within a defined area at such a distance required high power loudspeakers with exceptional control,’ said Mr Katoya, managing director of Katoya Recording Service, explaining the decision to install Community. ‘We chose two Community R.5-66T’s, with 60- x 60-degree dispersion for the main area, and an R.5-HPT with 60- x 40-degree dispersion to focus on the distant crossroads. They deliver the sound clearly to the areas where the displays are seen, but do not create a noise problem with spillage.’
A Powersoft M30D HDSP+ETH was chosen to drive the Community loudspeakers. This decision was reportedly made for its power, audio quality and the on-board DSP it provides.
