Connections Nightclub installed with Funktion One

AUSTRALIA: Perth’s Connections Nightclub recently celebrated its 36th anniversary by investing in a Funktion One sound system. Owner and DJ Tim Brown stated that ‘there has been a marked increase in business since the install’.
Preceding the purchase, Mr Brown approached various DJs for advice, after which a list was compiled. Armed with the list of prospective sound systems, Mr Brown travelled to London’s Plasa to meet with manufacturers and visit clubs that utilise his shortlisted systems.
‘The Funktion One gear appealed for its ability to reproduce the full audio spectrum at high levels with maximum clarity and separation,’ asserted Mr Brown. After the decision to invest in the brand was made, Funktion One’s John O’Donnell and Venue Technical Services’ Rick Browne installed the gear into the club in just one week.
This comprised two F1 DS210 mid high/high speakers, two F1 DS15 low/mid boxes and six F1 F218 Mk2 bass speakers. These reside at the front of either side of the 7m x 5m stage and are angled from outside a 4m high proscenium arch towards the dance floor.
Stereo power amplifiers from MC2 comprising one T1500, two T2000s and four T3500 drive the system, aided by an XTA DP448 digital processor. Meanwhile, two F1 RM15P two-way DJ monitors were also installed, as was a Rane MP44 classic analogue DJ mixer, an Allen & Heath Xone:92 DJ desk, two Pioneer CDJ2000 CD players, and two Technics SL-1200MkII turntables.
‘Perth is a long was from the rest of the world, and the guys worked really hard to give us the best service possible putting in long late nights to get it right,’ said Mr Brown. ‘Things ran very smoothly but it was hard work. They're extremely big boxes to move around!
‘I am very happy with the system,’ he continued. ‘The sound is of extremely high quality with high SPLs, and yet it is not harsh or intrusive in non-dance areas. Customers love it, and we’re also getting a lot more interest from outside promoters handling more specific music genres who want to have their DJs play on such quality gear,’ he enthused.
‘I would recommend Funktion One to other club owners, and for future projects, they would certainly be on our wish list,’ he concluded.
