Consolidated Audio Networks brings Turbosound to The Vault

SINGAPORE: A new two-storey nightspot named The Vault has been equipped with a sound reinforcement system comprising equipment from Turbosound and Pioneer. Located in the heart of Chinatown and adjacent to the Sri Mariamman temple, the recently refurbished venue boasts a three-tonne vault instead of a typical door entrance.
Together with his business partner Ross Glasscoe, Godwin Pereira wanted to create a special ambience where DJ music would not mute conversations. ‘It’s a speakeasy venue without the flashing lights,’ commented Mr Pereira. ‘Music was a top consideration for The Vault, but only after we had hand hacked the walls back to brick, upgraded the steel beams, reinforced the floors and reinstalled all the plumbing and electrics.’
Once completed, Consolidated Audio Networks was called upon to supply and install the resultant audio system. A combination of Turbosound TCX8, TCX10 and TCX12 speakers have been affixed to the walls on both levels at a height of 3m, with the objective for the sound not to be in patrons’ faces. The DJ booth comprises a Pioneer DJM900 mixer with two CDJ2000 players and is reinforced by Turbosound Milan M18 subwoofers for late night SPLs should they be required. The system was completed with the addition of three Turbosound Rack DP50 four-channel amplifiers, an Ecler Mimo54 five-in, four-out audio matrix for zoning and an Xilica XP-4080 processor. Meanwhile, foam soundproofing has been installed into the floors and ceilings.
‘The client asked for a fully modular system and this is what we have provided,’ furthered Consolidated Audio’s Jesmin Kaur. ‘The Flex speakers and their brackets can be temporarily removed should The Vault need to be transformed into a gallery. Godwin and Ross have created a premium venue that doesn’t cost a premium price and the active Turbosound sound system that Consolidated Audio Networks has installed fits that bill perfectly.’
The vault entrance itself had to be physically moved by the team from its original position at the rear of the building, and following painstaking deconstruction and refurnishing, The Vault has been transformed into an upscale bar. The venue also doubles as an art space given further credence by the wood-panelled floors, bricks and high ceilings.
