dampb brings German style to Guangzhou

CHINA: One of Guangzhou’s most popular nightclubs has been installed with a d&b audiotechnik loudspeaker system, adding German engineering to a venue already styled after one of Germany’s most iconic songs.
Named Lili Marleen – a song first recorded by Lale Andersen in 1939, the made famous again by Marlene Dietrich in 1945 – the nightclub is situated on the ground floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Huan Shi Dong Road, and is the flagship venue of the eponymous Marleen group, which operates five locations in total across China.
Though the other four Marleen venues boast different loudspeaker installations, club owner Chen Liang explained that a meeting with Daniel Chan of d&b audiotechnik China settled him on the switch of brand, praising the ‘fantastic bass – an essential ingredient for the house music our clients like to hear in the evenings. The mids and highs perform beautifully’.
The installation was performed by Dragon Studio’s Johnny Tang, whose brief stressed the importance of quick switchovers between DJ and live sets. Mr Tang worked alongside Alex Poon of d&b China to produce a system comprising d&b Ci7-Tops and Ci7-Subs, augmented elsewhere by B2-Subs, with over 20 MAX12s distributed around the venue for local reinforcement.
‘This club is quite large at 1000m,’ explained Mr Tang, ‘but I was able to comfortably achieve even coverage across the full frequency range and system performance is powerful when needed – the room has many hard reflective surfaces so pattern control had to be absolute. The MAX12s proved ideal for filling difficult to cover hidden corners.’
