CHINA: Rental company Sound Arts Group (SAG) recently selected DAS Audio for a Wanting Qu concert at the Harbin Sports City Center Stadium. The event marked the beginning of a 22-date tour by the Vancouver-based but Harbin-born artist, with DAS systems used throughout. Two different system configurations were created to serve first the initial stadium performance and then the smaller venue dates that followed.
Named the Say the Words tour, the string of dates saw the continuation of a long-term partnership between Wanting Qu and SAG. The company’s Jiang BeiShen and Zhang Bo have previously worked on recording projects with the artist at the SAG recording studio in Beijing.
Sound reinforcement for the Harbin homecoming performance comprised models from the manufacturer’s Aero Series 2 range, with a total of 24 Aero 50 enclosures used in two left-right hangs of 12 elements per-side. Low-end support was via 16 LX-218C subwoofers, all ground-stacked under each hang in eight unit blocks. A further 24 Aero 12A enclosures were flown in a left-right configuration for side-fills while four Road 15A cabinets were used as front-fills. DSP-2060A and DSP-4080 processors took care of loudspeaker management.
For the smaller dates, meanwhile, 12 Aero 12A enclosures flown six per-side made up the main front of house system alongside six LX-218CA subs for low-end. Road 15A monitors were used for on-stage sound.
Following the tour, SAG co-founder and engineer Zhang Bo commented: ‘We have extensive experience with the DAS systems and are fully aware of what they’re capable of in a range of different venues. They made set up and getting the right sound quite fast and simple for us on this tour.’
