CHINA: Taking the theme of a youth carnival, the 2013 Shenzhen Satellite Countdown recently took place at the Crystal Stone Gymnasium, with singers and youth leaders taking to the stage. A DAS line array system was used for the night, provided by local rental company SAG.
The Crystal Gymnasium can accommodate around 12,000 people over four floors. The audience area is divided into three sections, including areas on the left, right and in front of the stage.
Two different DAS systems were used for the event, comprising Aero 50 and Aero 12A models. A total of 24 Aero 50 three-way line array speakers were hung at a height of approximately 18m on either side of the stage – 12 per side – to cover the audience area. A further 16 Aero 12A line array speakers were flown in front of the stage to cover the middle section of the audience, at a height of around 20m. Six LX-218C double 18-inch subwoofers were also used for this middle section, with four Aero 8As used as side-fill.
A quantity of monitor speakers including four Road 15As and four Aero 8As were used for the band and the actors, with an Avid Venue D-Show console used for FOH.
‘Since the audience area and performing areas overlapped, the sound coverage and blind spots needed to be well controlled in order to provide a good balance,’ explained SAG CEO Zhang Bo. ‘We managed to attain well distributed sound with even coverage for the event.’
