DAS tours Asia with Slash

INDONESIA: DAS Audio Aero and Avant Series sound reinforcement systems were recently been used for the Indonesian legs of a world tour by one-time Guns N’ Roses guitarist turned solo superstar Slash.

Dubbed Slash’s World Tour and featuring Myles Kennedy of Alter Bridge, the tour recently swept through Asia including nights in Surabaya and Jakarta. Rental house Don Sistem Suara (DSS) supplied the reinforcement systems for both dates, with owner Donny Hardono compiling a DAS sound system described as ‘massive’.

In Surabaya, the DAS system comprised 32 Aero-38 line arrays – flown 16 per side – with low frequency support via 16 LX-218A active subwoofers ground-stacked in a left-right configuration with eight enclosures per side. The line arrays were driven by a combination of 24 DAS SLA-4000 and eight SLA-2600 amplifiers. On stage meanwhile were eight Avant-12A enclosures providing fold-back, while a further four Avant-12As were used as front-fills. Another four Avant-215A cabinets acted as side-fills with low end support from Avant-18A powered subs. Loudspeaker management was via DAS DSP-4080 and DSP-2060 processors.

Meanwhile in Jakarta the DSS team flew 24 Aero-38 enclosures with 12 per side accompanied by 16 LX-218A ground-stacked subs, all powered by 18 SLA-4000 and six SLA-2600 amplifiers. As with the Surabaya show, eight Avant-12A cabinets were used on stage for monitoring with a further six of the boxes providing front fills, and four Avant-215As plus four Avant-18A subs on side fills. Loudspeaker management and processing was again handled by DSP-4080 and DSP-2060 processors.

Slash’s front of house engineer for the tour, Ken ‘Pooch’ Van Druten, was particularly complimentary regarding the systems supplied by DSS. ‘These sound systems are great,’ he enthused. ‘There’s minimal EQ needed and that’s the way it should be. I popped in a CD, played Pink Floyd’s Time and it sounded terrific. The way these systems were being set-up gave me a lot of options – farfield, nearfield, left and right subs, and front-fills – all on different faders.’
