Davis Cup served by Total Events

AUSTRALIA: Victoria-based rental company Total Events recently fulfilled the audio requirements of the Geelong Lawn Tennis Club stands at the Davis Cup tennis tournament, including BGM, plus microphone systems for the MC and umpires. JBL enclosures, a Soundcraft Si Compact console and Shure microphones were all deployed, having initially been supplied by Jands.
According to Total Events, a key challenge at the tournament was ensuring that audience sightlines remained clear when installing the loudspeaker system. The solution saw six JBL VRX-918 powered subs plus 12 VRX-932 line array elements deployed for coverage, all powered by six networked Crown IT8000 amplifiers.
‘The VRX cabinets are discreet so you can point and shoot without obscuring the view of the tennis action,’ explained managing director Bill Busbridge. ‘They have a nice high power output and it’s good to be able to network the amplifiers so I can control remotely, time align etcetera.’
Mr Busbridge was also enthusiastic regarding his use of the Soundcraft Si Compact for mixing. ‘I absolutely love the Soundcraft Si Compact console. I have two of them in hire and I have also sold a couple. I really enjoy them and we’re using them a lot on our shows and events. I really like that you can move channels to any layer. The small footprint is a bonus and it’s just so easy to grab it and use. We find a lot of walk-in engineers are familiar with the console.’
Alongside the Harman Professional equipment, Total Events used four Shure UR Series radio microphones. ‘They enable me to scan and monitor the bandwidth,’ Mr Busbridge reflected. ‘Knowing that I have clear frequency allocation is comforting.’
