Die tote Stadt premieres with Iosono 3D sound

AUSTRALIA: The opera Die tote Stadt recently premiered at the Sydney Opera House, complete with Iosono 3D sound technology. The show is running until July 18th, and the orchestra’s music is streamed live into the theatre using the Iosono technology, leading some to describe Opera Australia’s production as ‘breaking new ground’.
The Iosono 3D sound technology works to create a ‘unique’ acoustical reproduction of the physically absent orchestra by building ‘an acoustical hologram’ of the sound created. Although all musicians play live in a neighbouring studio, the 3D technology allows the cinematic surround sound to fill the space by utilising the theatre’s existing d&b loudspeakers. Iosono’s audio processor is described as ‘the heart’ of the system.
‘I am thoroughly impressed by the way Iosono reproduces the body of the orchestra,’ said Tony David Cray, sound designer for the project and head of recording and broadcast for the Sydney Opera House. ‘The localisation of every single instrument is stable throughout the theatre and the transparency is amazing. It's a real game changer,’ he enthused.
