DiGiCo chosen for Red Bull webcast and recording

AUSTRALIA: A DiGiCo SD9 console was chosen for use at the Red Bull Bedroom Jam competition in Australia. The top eight bands competing in the competition performed in their bedrooms, and were sent a full film and sound crew to broadcast the performance over the internet.
Engineer Wil Burston was in charge of the sound for the unique gig in competition winner Cruel to be Kind’s bedroom.
Mr Burston reports that he required ‘a light weight solution with high quality sound, and a console with plenty of features given the mix would be a challenge due to the inconsistent acoustics of a band in a bedroom’. The system required also needed fast connectivity, and the ability to record multi-track easily and reliably.
‘The separate stage rack allowed for remote inputs with only 1 Ethernet cable needed for connection,’ said Mr Burston. ‘The SD9 has the least amount of latency compared to another other console, and it is the best small digital console on the market. It's an SD7, only smaller,’ he enthused.
Mr Burston reports that ‘the performance, mix and live recording all went accordingly and everyone was very happy with the result’.
