DiGiCo SD7 provides monitors for Paul Kelly concert

AUSTRALIA: A special one-night performance by Australian music star Paul Kelly recently saw a DiGiCo SD7 console used for monitors as well as the production of a live recording. The event marked the first use of the desk, which was recently purchased by the concert’s venue, Melbourne’s Victorian Arts Centre, from DiGiCo’s Australian distributor Group Technologies.
Taking place within the Victorian Arts Centre’s Hamer Hall, the concert saw Mr Kelly – an icon of Australian popular music with a career spanning over four decades – join forces with composer Paul Grabowsky, the Australian Art Orchestra, Vika and Linda Bull as well as Tina Harrod's Vocal Ensemble. The SD7 was used to mix monitors for the vocalists, the band and the chamber orchestra.
Meanwhile an accompanying SD Rack, connected via fibre, was used to capture the concert using the manufacturer’s ‘copy to Madi’ function which allows audio from any DiGiCo rack to be copied to any Madi port output. As a result, every input in the rack can be automatically recorded in an unprocessed format. Additionally, by connecting the recorder's Madi output to the corresponding Madi input on an SD series console, playback can be monitored on the same channels as the original source material.
Following the concert, monitor engineer Peter Sforcina reportedly described himself as impressed with the SD7’s onboard multiband compressor.
