Digigram acquires Ecrin Video amp Broadcast

WORLD: French IP audio specialist Digigram has entered the video market with the acquisition of Ecrin Video & Broadcast, a division of Ecrin Systems based in Crolles near Grenoble, France. The deal was made official on September 5th before being announced publicly at the recent IBC 2011 exhibition.

Ecrin Video & Broadcast is a designer and manufacturer of professional video compression solutions to transport video content over IP. The acquisition has been described by Digigram CEO Philippe Delacroix as ‘a strong strategical move for us when both audio and video are converging with IP’. It encompasses Ecrin V&B’s entire product portfolio as well as its R&D team, all of whom are set to be integrated into the existing Digigram R&D department, based in Montbonnot, also near Grenoble.

‘This offers us immediate, short-term presence in the video market, and of course exciting long-terms prospects,’ continued Mr Delacroix. ‘The acquisition should quickly result in a broader offering with potential for increased business.’

Speaking amid celebrations at IBC, meanwhile, Digigram marketing communications manager Remi Oudinot added: ‘They are a very innovative company, very active in the IPTV range, so it totally makes sense, particularly as we have been developing technologies around audio over IP. It’s really a perfect match. The whole team of Ecrin is joining us –the research and development department in Digigram is already getting bigger and we’re very excited about this.’
