Dolby relocates to the World Financial Centre

CHINA: Having opened its first Research and Engineering Centre in Beijing in 2010, Dolby has recently relocated its capital city facility to the World Financial Centre in Chaoyang, Beijing.
With five offices currently in the greater China region, Dolby has steadily built its presence throughout many segments of the entertainment and technology industries, ranging from cinema and broadcast to PC and smartphones. The strategic location sees the new facility situated in close proximity to many universities, and is in the same neighbourhood as CCTV and Beijing TV.
As part of this relocation programme, Dolby has developed a 12-seat demonstration theatre for clients and its own personal use equipped with a Blu-ray player, Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, Media PC, and 3D projector. The demonstration theatre was designed by Anderson AV from Berkeley and installed by UAT from Hong Kong. A 9.2 Genelec surround sound system has been discretely installed behind the acoustically fabricated walls of the theatre and the main static screen. Consisting of 11 active home theatre speakers and two subwoofers, the Genelec speaker system is capable of delivering content in all formats.
‘We were given a free licence to select any brand suitable for the job, but we have enjoyed a close relationship with Genelec here in Beijing by using their monitors for exhibitions we have participated at, so were familiar with their quality,’ said David Zhou, senior manager of product and partner marketing.
Meanwhile, a Crestron AV2 control processor provides a bespoke menu for managing the audio, video, lighting and screen resolution via a wall mounted wireless tablet. Floor box and wall interfaces offer connections to other devices such as laptops, tablets and smart phones. An Extron MAV Plus Series A/V matrix switcher with IP links, architectural adapter plates and distribution amplifiers have been integrated into the racks for which the former manages composite video and balanced/unbalanced stereo audio signals. In addition to this, several Furman PL-PRO-DMC-E conditioners provide electrical spike and surge protection for all the installed products.
