DPA helps to bring Jacky Cheung to Hong Kong

CHINA: A string of 20 Hong Kong concerts by singer songwriter Jacky Cheung recently used a variety of DPA microphones to capture both the instruments and Mr Cheung’s vocals. The manufacturer’s microphones have long been used by the artist, whose performances are described by the company as ‘acoustically demanding’.

Often referred to as the ‘God of Songs’ within the Chinese community, Mr Cheung’s concerts took place at the Hong Kong Coliseum, featuring a combination of musical performance and dance. For the artist’s vocals, a DPA 4088 miniature cardioid headband was used. Meanwhile, a horn section comprising trombone, trumpet, alto and tenor sax used a combination of six DPA 4099S and 4099T clip-on mics, while a string section boasting violins, violas and cellos used 11 DPA 4061 miniatures and 4099V models.

Following the concerts, monitor engineer Mike Wong described DPA microphones as ‘commonly regarded as standard for live miking,’ He added: ‘They capture the utmost in natural and uncoloured sound. We like them very much.’
