DPA mics Vienna Boys Choir

MALAYSIA: A number of DPA microphones were selected to mic the Vienna Boys Choir for a recent performance held at the Plenary Hall in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Provided by local rental company Orange Events, two matched-pairs of 2011C twin diaphragm compact cardioids from DPA’s Reference Standard series were selected to mic the 30-piece choir.
Describing these mics as ‘unique’, Orange Events owner Blurr Wong said: ‘The twin diaphragm capsule design combined with meticulous engineering has resulted in the product being a good all-rounder mic. It sounded luscious!’ he enthused.
Meanwhile, two 4099P instrument clip mics were chosen to mic the grand piano, with one mic positioned at each end of the strings. ‘The 4099P is small but packs a lot of punches, allowing you to achieve studio-like quality in a live environment,’ Mr Wong continued. ‘With the extensive range of DPA mounting accessories available, these mics may also be used with other instruments, giving a flexibility which is extremely useful for rental houses.’
Mr Wong reports that Orange Events has a good working relationship with DPA distributor UniAudio Asia. ‘We have a natural working chemistry, so the choice wasn't purely product-centric, but value-centric. Also, by working through DPA's authorised dealer in Malaysia, AV United, the value structure was further enhanced,’ he explained.
The event organiser is reported to have said that the DPA mics sounded ‘angelic’, and Mr Wong was so impressed that he is planning to add to Orange Event’s inventory of mics from the manufacturer.
