Electori blends old with new at Tokyo’s Meijiza Theatre

JAPAN: An RCF sound system described by the manufacturer as ‘potent’ has been installed into Tokyo’s Meijiza Theatre by Electori Co. The theatre hosts enka performances, a genre of traditional ballad-style Japanese music, and required reinforcement throughout the audience area. Despite being originally designed for touring, the TT+ system deployed reportedly formed an excellent match, with installer Yoshi Yasui, general manager, Professional Sales Division, Electori Co Ltd, declaring it ‘the perfect medium for reinforcing enka ballads’.

The 1,368-capacity venue has been equipped with four TTL33-A active loudspeakers, ground stacked on either side of the stage above TTS36-A subwoofers. The decision to stack the cabinets this way reportedly stemmed from the venue’s limited stage depth. In addition to this, coverage would need to be provided evenly for each tier, right up to the third floor balcony.

‘Despite these songs being traditional ballads, the artist is supported by a powerful rock band style line-up, comprising drums, bass, percussion, two keyboards, two guitars, a five-piece brass section and backing vocals,’ explained Mr Yasui. ‘This really shows off the characteristics of the RCF system.

‘Although it is difficult to connect RCF with the Japanese traditional ballad it forms an excellent match, and is further evidence of the close cooperation that exists between Japan and Italy,’ he added. ‘It has been an excellent promotion for the TT+ system and every day we have been taking customers along to the theatre to experience the performance first hand.’

‘The artist also felt great confidence with the performance of RCF during her month-long residency,’ concluded Takashi Matsuura, head of Japanese sales for RCF. ‘For this we must thank the operator, Mr Annen of Be Free, for providing the opportunity to use RCF TT+ in this project at Meijiza and for assisting with such an effective promotion for RCF in Japan.’
