Empress Chiang Mai Hotel receives Harman upgrade

THAILAND: The auditorium of the Empress Chiang Mai hotel, located in Thailand’s Chiang Mai province, has recently been renovated and upgraded with a new audio installation comprising Harman brands including JBL and Soundcraft.

Regional Harman distributor Mahajak Development Co Ltd both designed and supplied the new system, supporting it via its branch office in Chiang Mai. The 1,500-capacity auditorium is intended to cater for a wide variety of events including corporate meetings, small exhibitions and entertainment events. However, its size and shape presented a challenge to Mahajak in terms of achieving the desired coverage, particularly at the room’s rear.

The auditorium’s main front of house system now comprises two JBL VRX932LA line array elements per side plus two ground-stacked SRX718S subwoofers per side. Powering the loudspeakers is a Crown MA-3600VZ amplifier for the full range enclosures and a MA-5002VZ driving the subwoofers. Providing further reinforcement meanwhile are Control 24CT ceiling speakers. A 2-in, 6-out dbx DriveRack 260 is used to manage the design. Front of house mixing is via a Soundcraft Si1 digital console.
