ETC takes Eon training to Taiwan

TAIWAN: ETC and its service partner, SMI, recently provided training for Eos series lighting consoles at the Experimental Theatre in Taiwan’s National Performance Arts Centre (NPAC). Alongside the training, ETC’s official dealer, Ming-Li, presented a selection of LED luminaires, including the ColorSource PAR and Source Four LED Fresnel. Approximately 60 lighting professionals and students participated in the event.

The sessions were led by Chien-Chung Kuo, senior technical specialist of the National Theater and Concert Hall, who explained how to set up a networked system, how to identify key elements of Ion’s hardware and user interface and how to program common effects on the console. GuoGuang Opera Company lighting designer, Huai-Min Jen, provided hands-on training on how to custom-design the control interface using Magic Sheets and then provided instructions on how to create a mixture of lighting and palette layouts. Desmond Yim, regional sales manager of ETC Asia, also gave an LED demonstration of the manufacturer’s latest products, including the ColorSource PAR luminaire and Source Four LED Fresnel and CYC adapters.

‘The training helped expand our knowledge of console programming, like how to control moving lights, which are becoming more and more popular in the Taiwan region,’ commented Hsiang-Sheng Lin, stage manager of the National Taichung Theatre. ‘Many Taiwanese theatre crews, such as theatre technicians, stage managers and board operators, have being using ETC consoles over the past decade and have already gotten used to the programming logic, such as Patch and Record Cue. So the training has helped enhance our operational level of lighting control.’

‘I really enjoyed the training and learned a lot from the classes,’ summarised Xiao-Jun Huang, a graduate student from the department of art and creative design at Hsuan Chuang University. ‘The LED demo was amazing! I have admired ETC’s R&D for a long time, in particular the LED series. I have had a good experience using the LED luminaires, which are very convenient, user-friendly and practical.’
