FBT delivers the Rockstar treatment for Jakarta gym-goers

INDONESIA: Rock stars have always demanded the very best sound systems with which to address their audiences. Likewise, the Rockstar Gym chain in Jakarta has insisted on having the very best audio available for its customer-base of children and teens. Located on the top floor of Kota Kasablanka Mall, Rockstar Gym’s management team recently consulted PT Rhema Multi Perkasa (RMP) to design and install audio systems into its indoor fitness rooms in addition to the main indoor court and newly acquired outdoor area, which consists of swimming and bathing areas.
The tone is struck for working out upon arrival at the reception area. Here, members are greeted by amplified foreground music distributed on column fixed FBT J5A self-powered speakers, which have been further enhanced in the lower frequencies by FBT Project 1180a subwoofers. An ARX MaxiSplit distribution splitter provides audio control throughout the indoor zones, for which an Apple iPod player is predominantly used as the main source. The adjacent gymnasiums have been installed with wall mounted FBT EvoMaxX 4a 500W self-powered speakers capable of providing higher SPLs up to 130dB.
The indoor court hosts a variety of team sports including basketball and soccer and as such the four wall-mounted EvoMaxX 4a speakers in this venue have been protected by wire cages. Connected to a Soundcraft EFX8 mixer, the loudspeakers can provide music via several sources or commentary / announcements courtesy of an AKG SR45 Perception wireless microphone system. A dbx 231S graphic equaliser has been added to the portable rack to mitigate the hall’s reverberant acoustics, whilst a Munson MES281 power conditioner and sequencer assists the staff with ease of set up.
Elsewhere, 12 FBT Shadow 105T 5-inch speakers in 100v line configuration provide distributed BGM and announcements throughout the extensive outdoor area. The grey IP55 rated polyethylene roto-moulded cabinets are capable of producing up to 112dB and are further protected against the elements with die-cast aluminium brackets and a water-stop grille with three layers of protection. Alongside reducing acoustic reflections and standing waves within the enclosure, the curved shape enhances the LF performance whilst diffracting wind.
‘It was a challenge to complete the outdoor area in time,’ confirmed RMP project manager Dax M Wenas. ‘It took some time for Rockstar to be granted permission to install the sound system, as they had to consider the noise pollution it may create for nearby residences. As the site was already constructed, cabling to the speaker points was limited and we had to sensitively create conduits without digging up concrete or fixtures. However, we managed to overcome these obstacles and the client is very happy with the result.’
Once again, an ARX MaxiSplit distribution splitter provides audio control throughout the four outdoor zones, including volume settings and source selection (iPod, wireless microphones, CD player). The Shadow 105T speakers are powered by four FBT MPA 3240 240W amplifiers, whilst crossovers and EQ settings have been configured by adding a DLM26 processor to the signal path in the portable rack. A Munson MES281 sequencer and Soundcraft EFX8 mixer completes the setup, further contributing to an environment where children can play and relax in the manner of little rock stars.
