FBT provides outdoor sound in Chinas largest theme park

CHINA: A new amphitheatre within Beijing’s 1million sq-m Happy Valley theme park has been installed with an FBT Modus line array system to help it compete with surrounding attractions. Located within the new Happy Times section of the park, the 3,000-seat open-air theatre hosts a range of performances every evening including live music, displays of acrobatics and even magic shows.
The Happy Valley chain of theme parks is well known in China, with four sites including Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Chengdu. The Beijing park, located in the Chaoyang district, is the largest of the four, measuring approximately five times the size of Hong Kong Disneyland. Among the attractions offered at the resort are fast-paced rides, a seven-screen Imax theatre and a shopping mall. The site is divided into six areas named Firth Forest, Aegean Sea, Ant Kingdom, Atlantis, Lost Maya and Shangri-La.
Comprising phase three of the park’s development, Happy Times boasts exclusive rides of its own plus an array of restaurants alongside the amphitheatre that acts as the area’s main attraction. Consequently, the park set out to find an audio system that was capable of delivering even coverage across the theatre’s wide audience area whilst delivering high enough SPL to compete with the surrounding environmental noise.
The decision to opt for FBT Modus line arrays – supplied by the manufacturer’s Chinese distributor Guangzhou E-Tech General Technology Co – was reportedly reached by a committee of sound engineers and specialists following a process of elimination with a number of European brands.
The completed design encompasses two flown line array hangs at either side of the stage, each of which comprises a Modus 15 full range enclosure offering 15-degree dispersion, a Modus 40 full range cabinet projecting over 40-degrees, and a Modus Sub for low end. Two further Modus Subs are ground-stacked on the stage. Power is delivered through a combination of two Symbol 12000 and four Symbol 18000 amplifiers, while loudspeaker management is via an XTA DP226.
