FBT selected for the wedding of the King of Bhutan

BHUTAN: A substantial FBT sound reinforcement system was installed at the Bhutan Changlim Thang Stadium for the wedding of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to Jetsun Pema. Pine Creek Tech Inc was awarded the sound project for the event, which was attended by approximately 30,000 people.

Yasu Das of Specyral India was approached to find the solution for the Bhutan Changlim Thang Stadium.  Mr Das then contacted Pooran Rawat from Pine Creek, who suggested FBT speakers for the installation.

‘We are very confident with the standard of FBT products, and we selected the equipment with the budget in mind, but ensuring it was still of high quality,’ explained Pine Creek’s Somesh Kumar.

‘We had 30 days to finish this project,’ he continued. ‘We quickly arranged a demo at a venue in Bhutan with our audio engineer Nitin Giri along with Yasu Das. A Bhutan government official approved the products and our layout planning after the demo, and in total it took 23 days to complete the project. The team had to work day and night to get it done!’

Mr Kumar reports that a challenge the team faced was providing an even sound with a low SPL throughout the entire stadium. ‘We had to work in-depth when designing and choosing the location of the speakers, taking into account the height and angle of each speaker,’ he explained.

FBT equipment used at the stadium comprised two Verve 215 passive speakers, 70 Project 660 passive speakers, five MPU 4240 multi channel line power amplifiers, and Verve 18S subwoofers. Additional equipment comprised a Yamaha LS-9-16/32 digital mixer, a DBX RD-260 drive rack, a Behringer DA MX882 splitter/mixer, and two QSC RMX-4050HD power amplifiers.

‘In total, 44 FBT Project 660 speakers were used in the main seating area. In both VIP areas we utilised four Project 660 speakers – two on each side mounted on the wall.  We used two Project 660 speakers in the VVIP sitting area, and two Project 660 speakers in the VVIP podium area. We also used FBT Verve 215 and Verve 18s to provide the sound for the main performances in front of the VIP and VVIP sitting areas,’ explained Mr Kumar.

‘Bhutan’s royal King function was held in the same stadium and there were more than 50,000 people in attendance,’ continued Mr Kumar. ‘They enjoyed the whole function with FBT sound, and after the show we received compliments from government officials for our good work. I hope we will do more projects using FBT in future in Bhutan,’ he concluded.

The team comprised: Kumar Gutam, Balwinder Sing from Spectrial India, installation engineer Sita Ram, audio engineer Mr Nitin, and project coordinator Somesh Kumar from Delhi light and Music Centre.
