First Australian Vive Audio system heads to New Farm Cinema

AUSTRALIA: The first Christie Vive Audio cinema system to enter the country has been installed at the newly-opened New Farm Cineplex in the suburbs of Brisbane. The audio system formed one aspect of the manufacturer’s complete cinema solution, which also included the installation of Solaria Series projectors into several of its state-of-the-art auditoriums. The extensive project was undertaken by the manufacturer along with its Australian partner, Edge Digital Technology.
The New Farm Cinema complex houses six colour-themed auditoriums – each of which caters for different purposes and clientele. Two screens have already been opened, whilst four additional screens including two Gold Rooms offering top-of-the-range amenities are currently under construction and expected to be opened later this year. The facility has been rebuilt over the past 18 months on the site of a former iconic two-screen cinema known as the Village Twin.

The installation at the complex's 205-seat Purple Room comprises a combination of Vive Audio speakers, including LA1 screen channel speakers, S215 subwoofers, S218 cabinets for the LFE channels, as well as LA1 and S115 for corner surrounds. The manufacturer reports that most global Vive Audio installations to date have featured the surround speakers mounted to the auditorium’s walls. The ceiling in the Purple Room has been granted heritage status as a result of its ongoing use as a cinema auditorium since the 1920s. A corner surround system was therefore specially designed to circumvent this problem.

It’s actually going to be a pretty trendy place to visit, even if you’re not watching a movie.’
Aside from the immersive audio system, a Solaria CP2215 projector was installed into the Purple Room, and a Solaria One+ installed in the 70-seat Bronze Room.
