THAILAND: Thai broadcast Thairath TV has committed to bringing a surround sound experience to its terrestrial viewers. The decision means that all content delivered via its Tairath HD channel will be broadcast in Dolby Digital Plus, a first for the country. The HD service went live on 24 April 2014.
‘Broadcast innovations in Thailand are evolving at a fast pace,’ said Vachara Vacharaphol, CEO of Triple V Broadcast Co Ltd, which operates Thairath TV. ‘The incredible combination of high-definition video and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound provides audiences the best quality of content and experience.’
The move makes Thailand one a select few countries delivering the free-to-air DVB-T2 broadcasting standard that facilitates the implementation of Digital Plus. By integrating the standard, the broadcaster has the option of airing a 15.1 channel audio mix.
‘Great sound is essential for great entertainment. Dolby is thrilled to be working with Thairath TV to help bring TV viewers extraordinary audio experiences,’ said Leong-Yan Yoong, regional director of Southeast Asia, Dolby. ‘As high-definition broadcasts become more widely available for viewers in Asia, Thairath TV's initiative for a higher standard of home entertainment, complemented with Dolby Digital Plus technology, is the way to go.’
Dolby adds that, to-date, Digital Plus has been included in more than 1.7 billion products worldwide, including TVs, set-top boxes, Blu-ray Disc players, A/V receivers and mobile devices.
