FM Hokkaido Broadcasting transitions to AoIP links

JAPAN: FM Hokkaido Broadcasting recently sought an IP solution to link its Sapporo-based station with six transmitter sites to reduce the cost of each STL (studio-to-transmitter) link. The broadcaster selected Digigram’s Iqoya *Link AoIP (audio-over-IP) codec, which is approximately half the size of the ISDN system that it replaces. The solution was recommended and supplied by SCA Sound Solutions.

‘SCA helped us to test the functionality, quality, and reliability of Digigram's Iqoya systems and ensured that we could implement features that are critical to our operations,’ said Hideyuki Yamada, technical manager at FM Hokkaido Broadcasting. ‘SCA is a longtime partner of ours, and we trust the company's recommendations with respect to technology that will meet both our cost and performance requirements. Since we took the systems live, they have performed flawlessly.’

The purchase comprised a total of 26 Iqoya *Link units, 12 of which are installed at the main station in an MPEG L2 compression configuration, while an additional two are stored as back-up units. The remaining 12 were deployed across the six transmitter sites, with two units installed at each location in a redundant configuration.

‘Products such as the Digigram Iqoya *Link codec make it easy for our customers to transform and enhance their operations with advanced IP technology,’ stated Yoshinori Hagihira, COO of SCA Sound Solutions Co. ‘As Digigram's distributor in Japan for all audio products, we have worked with the company for many years and have seen it develop a product portfolio that eases broadcasters' shift to IP.’

‘SCA's extensive technical knowledge and excellent understanding of customer requirements make it an ideal partner in Japan,’ said Nancy Diaz Curiel, sales manager, Asia Pacific at Digigram. ‘SCA provides unique value for its customers – including FM Hokkaido Broadcasting – by creating and supporting the most suitable and effective equipment for their operations and business models.’
