Funktion One packs a punch for Eight Eight Superclub

PHILIPPINES: A new Funktion One sound system has been installed at Eight Eight Superclub in Manilla. In their attempts to appeal to a more sophisticated clientele in Metro Manila, the club owners placed their choice of sound system as a priority in their wish list.
‘You can have the best marketing in the world, but if you have a bad sound system, you have wasted your efforts,’ confided co-owner and DJ Rodney Martinez. ‘You see it all the time – people queue patiently to get into a club, buy a drink and then have their ears assaulted. They finish their drink, leave and tell all their friends not to waste their time going there.’
Having long desired to own a Funktion One sound system, Mr Martinez and his fellow co-owner Derrick Yap took the plunge and specified two Dance Stacks. Supplied by Funktion One distributor Stagecraft International and installed by Edward Bicierro, the two dance Stacks serve as an L-R system between the impressive DJ booth and LED backdrop that serves as the club’s focal point. A Pioneer SRT900 Nexus mixer together with dual Pioneer CDJ-2000 series decks serves the needs of the resident and guest DJ’s. Cheekily, Eight Eight Superclub has added dance platforms above each stack enticing brave revellers to raise the stakes as the SPL’s increase as the club reaches its 800 capacity audience. Six F218 subwoofers located under the DJ booth provide the required low frequencies for the revellers, who can enjoy the Funktion One experience seven nights a week until 6am. Four Bullet speakers suspended from the ceiling are used for a BGM ambience when the Dance Stacks are resting.
In order to draw a more diverse crowd to Eight Eight Superclub, a more chilled out atmosphere is provided in the upper non-smoking area, which is sheltered by thick glass. Here, guests can appreciate a view of the action on the main floor from Wednesday to Saturday, where they can be entertained by four Funktion One Resolution 2 speakers. Whilst the dance floor provides more house, techno and top 40 music, the upper level plays retro 80’s and 90’s together with straight house music in an attempt to create a different atmosphere. The powerful yet thirsty audio system requires a large amount of watts. This is provided with ample headroom from a combination of four MC2 E45 amplifiers in addition to Powersoft d3002, d3904, d5204 units, two M50Qs and six K6 amplifiers all managed via two Funktion One 1048 processors.
Having witnessed new patrons become regulars at Eight Eight Superclub, Derrick Yap has since acquired a bar in Cebu called J-Ave, which is equipped with Funktion One Resolution speakers.
