Genelec installed into Mumbai-based Chinese restaurant

INDIA: Genelec monitors were recently installed into a Michelin-star Chinese restaurant named Hakkasan, located in the Bandra area of Mumbai. Pandam Professional Audio installed the speakers into the 603 sq-m property.

A total of eight 8050A bi-amplified monitors were selected for the main dining room along with a 7073A subwoofer and a Sonifex distribution amplifier, whilst a smaller 15-seater private dining area was equipped with two wall-mounted 8030 enclosures.

‘The owner has been using Genelec for almost nine years and actually has them in his home, so he knows all about their quality and reliability,’ said Prashant Damle, partner at Pandam Professional Audio. ‘He believes in the top most quality in every aspect and chose Genelec as he knows that they will more than satisfy his customers.’

The venue’s Ling Ling Lounge is described as ‘the focal point’ of the restaurant, and as Mr Damle explained, this was a trickier part of the install process. ‘It was a bit of a task to install 1038CFs into the lounge,’ he said. ‘There was no space on the side walls we decided to use the 1038s for the ceiling. Six of them are flush-mounted and they’ve been calibrated with a 7073A woofer giving a nice tight sound, and if required they can go to 105db,’ he insisted.

Genelec’s Clifford Pereira assisted Mr Damle with the calibration in the restaurant. ‘The sound pressure level is very satisfactory even if it is played really loud,’ furthered Mr Damle. ‘The owner was very specific about what he wanted to be installed and we knew exactly what we had to do, so overall it was a pretty smooth installation,’ he concluded.

Hakkasan was designed by Gilles & Boissier and can seat up to 120 diners.
