WORLD: On the eve of the NAMM show, Harman announced that it had acquired and incorporated Melbourne-based SM Pro Audio, having valued the company as an innovation hub for a wide range of pro audio and MI technologies across several product brands. According to Harman’s Professional Division president Blake Augsburger, the depth of innovation and quality of engineering talent at privately owned SM Pro Audio was expected to provide Harman Professional with a strong internal technology partner for a broad range of products.
Accordingly, the NAMM show opened with a Harman Professional press conference during which the Soundcraft Ui remote-controlled rack-mount mixer was announced to the assembled press corp.
'I am very pleased to welcome the SM Pro Audio team to the Harman fold,' commented Mr Augsburger. 'Together, we look forward to bringing a new depth of innovation to the broadest array of customers around the world. To that point, we have already envisioned ideas and concepts where SM Pro Audio products and technologies could benefit Soundcraft and Studer mixers, dbx signal processing and AKG transducers. We expect to introduce Harman products that feature SM Pro Audio technology in early 2015.'
