Harman complements The Stoned Crows new look

AUSTRALIA: The Constant Group recently designed a new audio system for The Stoned Crow bar in Australia. Using Harman brands distributed by Jands, the upgrade follows the bar’s five-month closure where it was reinvented with a new ‘back to nature’ theme.

The Constant Group needed to ensure that all areas of the venue were covered, and at the same time guarantee that the sound would not spill out of the bar’s front windows. ‘The idea was to have a great restaurant feel with high quality sound in the background,’ explained Con Constantinou, managing director of The Constant Group. ‘However, the venue needed to easily adapt to a chic bar with a relaxed feel as the evening progresses. At the same time we had to take into consideration that it would also be used for private functions and allow for DJ integration.’

With this in mind, four JBL Control 24 in-ceiling speakers were installed into the bar’s entry area. A further four Control 25AV loudspeakers and Control 50 compact subwoofers now service the front dining section. The same setup has been implemented in the venue’s central area near the bar, whilst two Control 25AV units now reside in the front lounge. Meanwhile, four Control 62P satellite pendant speakers and a Control 50 handle the space at the front of the bar.

‘The JBL Control 62Ps allow the bar staff to hear patron’s orders and deliver high quality sound into the area at lower levels than the rest of the space,’ said Mr Constantinou. ‘The Control 62P satellite pendant speakers also fit in amazingly and the designer was extremely impressed with not only the look of them but how well they compliment the lighting at the front of the bar area. The Control 25AV and the Control 50 sub also fit in with the design and do not detract from the design features throughout.’

The Constant Group designed the system so that full control of all seven of the bar’s zones is available, which ensures that the correct levels are used throughout the day, and that the volume drops in the evening. A BSS Soundweb London Blu-100 and Blu-10 wall remote equipped with programmed modes make this possible.

‘Through clever processing, we are also able to achieve a consistent frequency response, no matter the volume level, by automatically adjusting the frequency response when the system is turned down to lower levels. This ensures the system still sounds warm at low levels, without being “boomy” when turned up,’ Mr Constantinou continued.

The two lounge sections also required specific levels of music, which was achieved by implementing separate control over all zones. A BSS Soundweb digital signal processor also controls this area along with a touchscreen networked remote control panel located behind the bar.

‘The end result is fantastic sound and an extremely happy client, with the system meeting and exceeding all their expectations,’ Mr Constantinou concluded.
