Harman products installed into U Tower

THAILAND: A substantial integrated Harman brand solution has been installed at the nine-storey U Tower located in the Bang Kapi district of Bangkok. Harman Professional distributor Mahajak Development Co was awarded the installation contract.

The client was the Klongchan Credit Union, which required a new sound system for some of the building’s convention halls and boardrooms. Mahajak Development Co was awarded the contract due to a combination of its good reputation in the area, and the fact that the project needed to be completed very quickly. Mahajak Development Co had the stock that was required, allowing the company to complete the project within the time frame specified.

‘The project was completed within three months of initial discussions, and we were on site for about six weeks, which was the main challenge with this project,’ said Mahajak Development Co’s Alan Archer. ‘Also, the auditoriums are quite large but are not very tall – which presented us with some interesting acoustical problems to solve,’ he furthered.

The 10th floor meeting room is now equipped with Shure equipment comprising an MX418D/C gooseneck desktop microphone and a PGX 24/SM58 handheld wireless system. An EPM 6 Soundcraft mixer was also installed, alongside a dbx Drive Rack 220i system processor. Meanwhile, a CDi 1000 Crown power amplifier powers a Control 24CT micro ceiling speaker and a C2P reference monitor, both from JBL.

Meanwhile, the tower’s convention hall has been fitted with Shure equipment comprising a SM58S vocal mic, an MX418D/C desktop mic, a SLX24E/SM58 wireless micro set, and a UA844SWB-E antenna distribution system. Products from dbx comprise an AFS224 feedback suppressor and a PB48 patchbay, whilst Soundcraft’s GB 8 was selected as the hall’s console, and a Blu-160 signal processor was selected from BSS. Crown amplifiers comprising an MA 5000i, an XTi 4000, and an XTi 2000 power JBL speakers. These consist of a VRX 932LA line array PA speaker, a VRX 918S subwoofer, a VRX 928LA line array loudspeaker, a SRX728S subwoofer, an MRX 512M speaker, and a C2P reference monitor. JBL VRX-AF and VRX-SMAF array frames were also installed into the convention hall.

For the tower’s third floor meeting room, Shure equipment selected consists of a SM58S mic, a MX418D/C gooseneck mic, a PGX 24/SM58 handheld wireless system, and a PGX14E/WL185 wireless mic. A dbx AFS224 feedback suppressor was also chosen for this room, as well as a Soundcraft MPMi multi purpose mixer. Loudspeakers and amplifiers comprise a dbx drive rack PA loudspeaker control system, a Crown XTi 2000 amplifier, a CBT 70J line array column speaker, a CBT 70JE line array extension loudspeaker, and a C2P reference monitor from JBL.

Lastly, a small production studio was equipped with a 003 control surface from Digidesign, a Denon PMA-510AE amplifier, and a JBL LSR 2325 studio monitor. Completing the list of equipment installed into the studio is a HeadPod 454 headphone amplifier from Aphex, a Digidesign MBox 2 pro tools interface, K 240MKII studio headphones from AKG, and a Shure SLX1 bodypack transmitter.

Mr Archer reports that the client is ‘very happy’ with the solution provided.
