INDIA: Harman Professional products were recently utilised to provide the sound reinforcement for the bi-annual Indian rock festival Summer Storm. Held at Palace Grounds, Bangalore, the stage set-up and audio rig was handled by Indian sound rental company V&P Sound.
In consultation with V&P Sound, festival organiser Overture India selected Harman Professional audio systems for the event, which comprised JBL Vertec line arrays, Crown I-Tech HD amplifiers, AKG microphones and a Soundcraft Vi6 digital console.
The main set-up comprised 20 JBL Vertec VT4889s in two main hangs of 10 per side, with eight JBL CSR subs stacked four each side. VT 4880s were used as centre subs, and eight JBL VT 4886s were used as centre-fills. Audio for the stage was made up of six JBL VT 4886s and 4883s as side-fills, and the stage monitoring system consisted of 12 JBL VRX915Ms. Crown’s I-Tech HD 5000s, 9000s and 12000 amplifiers were used to power the system, while FOH was mixed using the Soundcraft Vi6 console. Processing for the bi-amped monitors was completed using the Crown I-Tech HD’s built-in DSP.
An AKG Drum Set II and a Rhythm Pack with D40 were utilised for the drum kits, and the brand’s C414, C451B and D5 microphones, as well as a WMS4000 wireless system were also used.
‘We partnered with V&P Sound and were glad to work with a professional sound rental company that delivers world class sound reinforcement,’ said Vinay Venugopal and Arpan Peter, owners of Overture India. ‘Vishnu from V&P Sound provided unparalleled expertise and insight for the festival. Harman Professional’s audio equipment was used in both editions of the festival and all artists were delighted with the outcome. In most cases it was the first choice of equipment for all bands.’
‘Using the V5 presets on JBL Vertec sounds fantastic,’ commented Vishnu P, owner of V&P Sound. ‘It truly brought out the best in live sound reinforcement. The vocal range appeared to float outside the box while producing a more defined bass sound. Using the V5 is like having an entirely new system all over again. Simply put, the JBL Vertec is all about power, punch, precision and rigging,’ he asserted.
‘Managing the comprehensive needs for high SPL, multi-act outdoor festivals required complete focus and real expertise in the field application of concert-quality sound systems,’ said Ankush Agarwal, senior manager, marketing, Harman Professional India. ‘Effective results require not only the right equipment, but the right skills. With this year’s Summer Storm festival, V&P Sound has once again demonstrated the company’s strong capabilities in this area.’
‘The JBL Vertec VT4889/VT4880A rig sounded really good,’ added Opeth’s FOH Engineer, Olle. ‘My experience was very enjoyable because of good gear and a very good crew.’
The festival attracted crowds of approximately 7,000 music lovers, who came to see the bands Opeth, SuidArka, Nothnegal, Eccentric Pendulum and Theorized.
